Presenting the evidence

Recently, Professor John Lavis visited Australia as a guest of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority – VMIA – which is working with BehaviourWorks on a three year project to improve patient outcomes in the Victorian hospital system.

Professor Lavis, from McMaster University in Canada, participated in a ‘stakeholder forum’; a technique he pioneered for incorporating research evidence into collective decision making. BWA’s Associate Professor Peter Bragge, who introduced this technique to Australia, spoke to Prof Lavis at a breakfast event hosted by VMIA, where he explains some of the work he’s done, some insights he’s learned whilst here, plus how being a really good listener can make all the difference when it comes to getting stakeholders in the same room.
